Provider Resources

Are you a therapist currently offering, or hoping to offer,

Ketamine-assisted therapy to your clients?

The Riverbird Pollinators was born as a way to offer support, community and accountability to therapists offering, or hoping to offer, KAT to their clients in their independent practices. This is important work that does not come without risk and it can feel very challenging to offer this treatment while feeling isolated.

This membership acts as a monthly consultation group hosted by rotating Riverbird providers and includes additional opportunities to partner with a Riverbird prescriber for medical assessment and ketamine prescribing for your clients. It also includes built-in opportunities for self-care, community building, and ongoing education. Members receive discounts on Healing for Healers groups and Lunch & Learns.

Healing for Healers

Healing for Healers is a group KAT series designed for professionals in the healing arts to:

  • Combat compassion fatigue and burnout

  • Deepen into their personal healing process

  • Explore their role as a healer

  • Foster connection and community

  • Become familiar with the medicine experience to better support their clients

These groups are offered in two formats: an introductory, 2-day group, or healers can return for a 3-day depth experience. Groups are typically made up of 4-6 participants and facilitated by two Riverbird providers.

FAQs

  • We do accept self-referrals at our clinic. Generally, we recommend that you encourage your client to reach out to our intake coordinator at info@riverbirdclinic.com.

  • We are here to help. If you are considering a client for KAT but you are unsure of their fit, please email us at info@riverbirdclinic.com. We’d be happy to support you.

KAT is an intensive treatment, by it’s nature, and requires a significant commitment of emotions, time and resources. KAT is process oriented and not a "quick fix” or silver bullet”; it is a tool that can support a deepening into healing and accessing parts of ourselves that need tending and care. This can be both a beautiful experience and a challenging one.

We generally recommend that individuals are not in the throws a major transition (moving, divorce, loss, etc.), though KAT can certainly be supportive in processing these things once they are less acute.

Medically, ketamine is quite safe, though it is not without risk or contraindication. We thoroughly screen clients prior to accepting them for treatment and will collaborate with their PCP’s or specialists involved in their care as needed to support safe access to KAT.

Psychologically, those with active mania or current or past psychosis are not appropriate for KAT treatment. This type of treatment can be quite dysregulating for those meeting criteria for personality disorders and sometimes, based on their functioning, resources, level of support or other circumstances, would not be appropriate for treatment or may require a longer, relationally-focused approach to treatment.

Based on our philosophies and treatment approaches at Riverbird, the benefits KAT offers are most suited to individuals who:

... are looking for a root-cause approach to healing rather than symptom management

... feel a sense of readiness and openness to look inward, explore, and be with the parts of themselves that are scary, painful or uncomfortable, even if they are feeling blocked or guarded about this.

...would like to work on being more open and vulnerable in order to connect more deeply with themselves, their friends and family

... are open to inviting spirituality into their healing journey

  • We do not offer a formal training. However, we offer numerous experiential and educational offerings for providers to deepen into their personal process and access ongoing learning and experiential education in community:

    • Healing for Healers KAT experiential groups

    • Pollinator KAT consultation and prescriber membership

    • lunch & learns offering ongoing education opportunities around KAT and complimentary modalities

Additionally, our sister organization, The Good Medicine Collective, offers many different modalities, community gatherings and events geared towards supporting this same mission.

  • Riverbird generally approaches KAT as an adjunctive treatment, requiring that individuals already be engaged with a primary therapist prior to beginning their work with us.

We always have a release of information signed for a clients therapist, and often other members of their treatment team if clinically appropriate. It is standard for us to make contact with a clients therapist at the start of treatment. The amount of coordination of care on our end is typically dependent on the client and the severity of their presentation. However, we always welcome communication and collaboration with providers, so please reach out at any time if you have a client working with us and would like to speak.
